Travel to Budapest and Parking in Budapest by Car
In Budapest you can leave your locked car safely anywhere on the street (in a legal parking place). However, we recommend that you do not leave your valuables in the car when parking. In Budapest, in the inner city on workdays you have to pay for parking. On workdays it is suggested to leave your car at your Hotel parking or at a parking company's place to not to run out of the parking ticket period. On-street pay parking is limited to 3 hours, when it is about to expire, at that time you have to renew it.
In Budapest you only pay for parking in the city centre and in the inner districts on workdays (e.g. from Monday till Friday, but exceptions may occur very rarely when sometimes Saturday is a workday). The pay period is from 8:00 am untill 22:00 pm (outside of the city centre untill 20:00 pm or untill 18.00 pm, more outside parking is free at any time). The parking zone is well controlled, and there is a good chance that your parked car will be checked every 20-30 minutes by an official parking controller. If you do not have a valid parking ticket, you will be fined. Parking is free on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Please take care, that there is a paying parking area around the Marathon venue on Friday until 22:00 pm, and on Monday from 8:00 am.
